What is it?

This is a beautiful display of what Michigan beaches have to offer. You will receive a Glass Jar filled with Black Sand, Stones, and driftwood all from Paradise, Michigan. Black sand is a mixture of magnetite and hematite which are magnetic. There are also many metals such as gold, silver, and copper! (Your jar has a high chance of containing trace amounts of all three!)

Where does it come from?

This sand was left behind from volcanic activity and pushed by the massive glaciers that carved our Great Lakes into the Earth. Finding Black Sand is a good indicator that gold and other precious metals are present in the sand as they are much heavier than quartz or basalt that is washed away by the waves.

Discovery Story

All of our sand, stone, and driftwood is ethically sourced from the beaches near Paradise, Michigan. There are special places known only to locals where the waves perfectly wash the lighter minerals away and leave beautiful glittering sand.

Each jar is adorned with Beadwork representing the 4 colors of the medicine wheel. In Ojibwe teachings these colors are sacred and represent the stages of life that we all experience.
